Where do I get a Free Hearing Test?

If you think that you or a loved one needs a hearing test then you should find your local hearing centre and book an appointment. Most hearing centres will have the option for someone to visit your house and conduct a hearing test in the comfort of your own home. Where can I get my free hearing test?

There are several High Street Companies who offer free hearing tests some of which are listed below.

Boots Hearingcare have over 100 hearing centres on the High Street across the UK and always have special offers on their own hearing aid range should you need one.

Specsavers Hearing Centres are the largest supplier of hearing aids in the UK and account for almost 25% of the market. Specsavers Hearing Centres have stores across the UK many of which are on the High Street.

The NHS also provide free hearing tests although you will need to speak to your GP to arrange one first. These days the NHS use some of the larger Private Hearing companies to conduct hearing tests.

What happens at your free hearing test?



A full hearing test will take approximately 30 minutes. It involves a thorough examination of your hearing. The audiologist will examine your ears to see if there are any physical reasons for your hearing loss, it may be a simple case of a build up of wax.

During the listening test you will be played a series of sounds through headphones and you will be asked to press a button when you can hear a sound. the test will assess your ability to hear a range of sounds including frequency and volume. At the end of the test you will be given the results along with recommendations on how to improve your hearing.

Can I take a hearing test online?

The RNID provide an online hearing test which you can take on your computer which is completely free. However you will need to question whether you want a professional hearing test from a qualified audiologist or one which you can do yourself?
